Every year as Christmas approaches and family plans start to form, the only given is “you’ll do the ham, obviously…” And every year, I do. So, whether you’re preparing a festive dinner for family or trying to impress friends or colleagues at your next holiday party, this glaze will take your ham to the next level. So, here’s my recipe to make a Christmas ham that’ll have everyone coming back for seconds!

Ingredients:

• 1 cup maple syrup

• 1 cup bourbon

• 2.5 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

• 0.5 cup tomato ketchup

• 0.5 cup brown sugar

• 2.5 tablespoons of your favorite sweet pork rub

Instructions:

1. Combine the Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the maple syrup, bourbon, ketchup, brown sugar, sweet pork rub, and apple cider vinegar.

2. Heat it Up: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

3. Simmer: Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens to a syrupy consistency.

4. Ready to Use: Once the glaze has thickened, it’s ready to use. Brush it generously on your cooked ham during the last 20-30 minutes of roasting. The glaze will caramelize as it cooks, creating a beautiful, shiny finish.

Tips for the Perfect Maple Bourbon Ham Glaze:

Add More Bourbon: If you love the rich, smoky flavor of bourbon, feel free to add a bit more. Just make sure to simmer it long enough to cook off the alcohol.

Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness by adding more brown sugar or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter glaze.

Use the Glaze as a Marinade: You can also marinate your chicken wings etc in this glaze before cooking for even deeper flavour.

This Maple Bourbon Christmas Ham Glaze will quickly become a family favourite, with its balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy flavours. Don’t forget to snap a photo of your glazed ham, and tag me on Instagram @ollies_q. I’d love to see how you bring this recipe to life!
